The Hindus celebrate the financial new year on Diwali each year.It is a festival of lights and crackers and has no fixed date but is normally in November . People give each other gifts and sweets and decorate their houses with lights and 'dias'(little earthern cups of oil with a cotton wick that burns like a candle)The poorest of the poor also spend money on a few 'Dias'as it is connected with religious beliefs.
