Thousands of years ago the Hindu Kings who ruled,the region built cemented steps and constructed monuments on the river side naming it after themselves.Kings and rich famous visitors also constructed stone and concrete buildings and stairs to descend to the river.Some Ghats were built later and named after authors and poets.Each Ghat built along the side of the city of Varanasi has a very traditional story.The stone and concrete Ghats extend from Assi to Varuna these are the two sides of the ancient city previously known as Kashi---- then as Benares-------and now as Varanasi. A few years ago the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawatiji made a bit of an extension of the Ghats on the Assi side and set it up with stone steps and monuments.All these steps along side the river are known as PUCCKA GHATS. The river Ganges was always a passion for everyone who visited this city.Tourists from all over the globe visit this city every year. Hindus visit especially for worshiping and washing their sins away with the holy dip in the river Ganga. Crowds of people come to the city on auspicious days to visit he temples after bathing in the river. The old parts of the city of Varanasi are not good to live in any more as they are heavily populated , noisy,dirty and confusing.
