It was the first day of September at 2.30pm as i walked near the river Ganges a surprising situstion confronted me.To my astonishment a 'NEWLA' (a large size squirrel) was playing with a snake. Each time the neuwla would come slowly and stealthily towards the snake and peck him playfully and run away as fast as he could. The snake in return would turn to catch him but not catching him knowingly and purposely.
This little game was repeated again and again till i left them and walked on.
People in India usually say that 'neulas' fight and kill snakes. And where there are 'neulas' snakes are too afraid to trespass,.... but....... now i doubt this ancient belief.
. Because of all the natural vegetation around during the months of August and September (monsoon months) the whole area is full of green tall grass and bushes ,These grow and flourish only till the rains last after which it all dries up with the lack of water and all these animals hibernate for six months .
